Turners Falls Women’s Resource Center kicks off 2012 with new Open Hours and programs Creating a safe and welcoming community that is responsive to the needs of women is at the heart of the Turners Falls Women’s Resource Center. As one woman says, “The Women’s Center represents the power of women. Women find the resources to nurture their inner strength and renew their energy.” The Center provides multifaceted supports and is a place for women to share their wisdom, compassion and expertise gained through life experience. Through a variety of grants and collaborations, TFWRC has a full roster of new and exciting programs planned for the coming year. For uplifting, creative fun that helps eliminate the winter blues, Introduction to Quilting runs through February 29 with instruction for beginners in quilting. Alternative Pathways to Wellness: The Healing Touch of Massage Therapy, March 5, 1:30-3pm, a year-long series of healing arts related workshops kicks-off with an introduction to two licensed massage therapists from Franklin County, Wendy Mooney and Linda Romano, who will presenting a talk on the various healing modalities they use in their practice, what brought them to this work and the specific relevance of massage to women’s health issues, especially as a long-term preventive or affordable health care alternative. After the group has been able to ask questions and share stories, Wendy and Linda will give a short, relaxing chair massage to each participant! Alternative Pathways to Wellness will create a fun and accessible environment for women to explore a menu of 10 different alternative health care offerings in one year, through trauma sensitive programming that links professionals in the field to local residents. Women with low incomes from the surrounding region will be able to learn about and experience a variety of alternative options for healing and self-care such as massage, reiki, transformational kinesiology, and visual arts. Alternative Pathways to Wellness: Redefining Comfort Food with Kelly Broadway, Holistic Health Coach, Monday, April 16, 2-4pm (more info coming) Alternative Pathways to Wellness: Transformational Kinesiology with Diana Bella, Monday, May 7, 10am-12:30pm (more info coming) Our Place in the World starts Thursday, March 8, 2-4pm. This new writing and visual arts workshop encourages the exploration of women’s lives: here, there, past and present. The exercises are designed to bring us to a deeper place of healing and give us an opportunity to use our creativity to form insightful connections to ourselves and to each other. We want to feel connected within ourselves, within our communities and within our social groups. Through a variety of exercises, women will have the opportunity to encounter the joy and healing power of self expression. Five weeks of two-hour workshops will provide a place where meaningful connections to ones’ self and to others can be made and nurtured. Turners Falls Women's Resource Center printable brochure (PDF) ABOUT THE WOMEN'S CENTER "I have first hand experience seeing, hearing and feeling the effects of our presence in our community – and it is powerful. I have been here long enough to see, to actually see, healing take place in front of my eyes; to watch and to be part of a community of women helping women in so many ways, sharing strengths and wisdom and time. Women listen to each other, create beautiful and moving artwork together, support each other’s growth and healing. Can you imagine it? Women come during our Open Hours to sit together, share a story, draw, paint, make jewelry, share a new craft technique, read the paper, have a cup of coffee or tea, go on-line, pick out some 'new' clothes … we laugh together, we may cry together, we become a part of each other’s lives. We know that, together, we have created a very special place." — Turners Falls Women's Resource Center Program Coordinator Christine Diani The Turners Falls Women’s Resource Center is a warm and welcoming place for all women that offers opportunities for connection and growth and for increasing confidence, skills and leadership capabilities through participation in a variety of programs.
